Day 2: Hiking in El Yunque rainforest & kayaking the Laguna Grande bioluminescent lagoon

Breakfast. Look for wild orchids as you hike on three rainforest trails in a jungle of bamboos, palms and giant tree ferns. The Mount Britton Trail ascends through the Tabonuco, Sierra Palm and Dwarf forests to the historic Mount Britton Tower, with its magnificent views to the Caribbean. La Mina Trail winds down along a rushing river to a roaring waterfall. After a cooling swim and a picnic, continue out on the Big Tree Trail, passing over clear mountain streams and beneath towering trees. Return to your rainforest retreat.

In the evening, paddle into the magical glow of the Laguna Grande bioluminescent lagoon. One of the world's natural wonders, it contains billions of extraordinary organisms that are part plant, part animal and so small as to be invisible to the naked eye. They give off a burst of light when disturbed by any movement -- it's like millions of tiny stars have fallen from the sky. After experiencing this rare phenomenon, return to shore for a dinner of traditional Puerto Rican cuisine at La Colizo. Overnight in the Tropical Paradise Villa.

"The snorkeling is fantastic...

The waters are crystal-clear and the variety of color found in the undersea life is astounding...

we were amazed at the beautiful coral and purple sea fans...

They swayed in the current, gracefully, as the waves rolled in on the surface above."

-- Thomas R. & Deborah A. Fletcher

Day 3: Snorkeling in La Cordillera

Breakfast. From the small fishing village of Las Croabas, embark on an all-day motorboat snorkeling excursion to otherwise unreachable coral reefs in La Cordillera Nature Reserve. Once the anchor has dropped into the turquoise water off Cayo Icacos, explore the sun-dappled, underwater world of giant sea fans, elkhorn corals and brilliantly-colored fish. After a delicious picnic on board, cruise to other sandy islets, such as Cayo Lobos and Isla Palominitos, for more fun. At sunset, return to port and your rainforest retreat for a cocktail at sunset. Dinner of traditional Puerto Rican cuisine at La Parrilla, facing Luquillo Beach. Overnight in the Tropical Paradise Villa.
