Planting a grove of giant tree ferns, Yuquiyu Resort & Spa.

"The Indians called spots like this yuquiyu, a place where you feel the presence of God...
To protect and nurture one is a sacred joy."
On the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, two friends have created an exclusive retreat for guests seeking relaxation, reflection and renewal. After seven years of searching for the ideal property, we acquired a diamond-in-the-rough, now cut and polished to reveal massive boulders, a cascading river and rainforest peaks. The Tainos believed the tallest peak, El Yunque, to be the cloud-covered throne of Yuquiyu, the god of creation. "Yuquiyu" also meant a natural place so beautiful they could feel the presence of their god. To honor him and his sacred gardens, we have reforested the land with native palms, planted a grove of giant tree ferns and constructed an architecture that reflects Taino traditions.
